A Bittersweet Victory: The Best Employer Award

Having been a part of the Northern Energy family for many years, we were all thrilled to receive a nomination for the esteemed Best Employer category at this year's Stray Ferret Business Awards.

The ceremony took place at The Pavilions of Harrogate on Thursday, March 15th, and our joy knew no bounds when the award for Best Employer, sponsored by Jones Myers Family Law, was presented to our Managing Director, Stu, by the evening's host, Claire Frisby from the BBC.

However, in the midst of our celebration, there was a heartfelt undertone. We accepted this honour in tribute to the unwavering support our company provided to one of our own, Emma Hynam, who tragically lost her battle with cancer the previous month.

Emma's brother, Justin, had nominated Northern Energy for this award and was in attendance that night, along with Emma's mother. Though we had hoped for Emma's presence among us, sadly, it was not to be.

For years, Emma had served as an account manager at Northern Energy, endearing herself to both colleagues and clients alike. Her warmth and compassion left an indelible mark on all who crossed her path. With admirable strength and courage, she faced her illness, leaving a profound void in the hearts of everyone at Northern Energy.

In his acceptance speech, Stu encapsulated our sentiment by stating, "To be a good business, we need good people. And Emma was one of those great people."

Emma, we miss you dearly. May you rest in peace.
